The most popular aircraft in the U.S. Fleet in 2020 was the Boeing 737-800 with 841 units ahead of the Boeing 737-700 (572 units) and the Airbus A320ceo (569 units).
In 2020, the U.S. commercial aircraft inventory included 7,690 aircraft, up from 7,445 aircraft in 2019 (+245/+3.3%*).
The 2020 inventory consisted of 4,085 narrow-body jets (53.1%), 1,908 regional jets (24.8%), and 1,257 wide-body jets (16.3%).
The remaining 440 aircraft were turboprops, business jets and piston-engine aircraft.
Of the 7,690 aircraft in the U.S. inventory, 3,342 or 43.5% were manufactured by Boeing,
1,767 or 23.0% by Airbus, 1,001 or 13.0% by Bombardier, 972 or 12.6% by Embraer, 245 or 3.2% by Cessna
and 233 or 3.0% by McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing), with 10 other manufacturers accounting for
the remaining 130 aircraft.
The most popular aircraft in the inventory remains the Boeing 737-800 with 841 units (826 in 2019)
ahead of the Boeing 737-700 (572 units vs. 579 in 2019), and the Airbus A320ceo (569 units vs. 559 in 2019).
In 4th place, we have the Airbus A321ceo (438 vs. 424 in 2019), an aircraft that has moved rapidly up the list
in recent years. The A321 (both ceo and neo) has been widely used as replacement model
for aging Boeing 757s. The the Bombardier CRJ200 takes 5th place (403 vs. 426) ahead of
the Boeing 757-200, Embraer E175, Airbus A319ceo, Boeing 737-900ER, and Bombardier CRJ900.
In 2020, now new aircraft models entered the fleet. As of 2020, the fleet no longer includes the Airbus A310 and Embraer ERJ-135
*In 2020, United Express operator, CommutAir, was added the fleet, which is one of the main reasons for the increase in the 2020 inventory.
CommmutAir operates 168 Embraer ERJ-145 regional jets, many of which were part of the ExpressJet Airlines fleet in 2019.
